XXVIII week of ordinary time

Lk 12, 1-7

1 In the meantime thousands of people had gathered, to the point that they trampled on each other, and Jesus began to say first of all to his disciples: "Take heed of the yeast of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.2 There is nothing hidden that it will not be revealed, nor of secret that will not be known. 3 Then what you have said in the darkness will be heard in full light, and what you have said in the ear in the innermost rooms will be announced by the terraces.

4 I say to you, my friends: do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that they can not do anything anymore. 5 I will show you instead of who you must be afraid of: fear the one who, after killing, has the power to throw into Gehenna. Yes, I tell you, fear him. 6 Five sparrows do not sell themselves for two dollars? Yet not one of them is forgotten before God. 7 Even the hairs of your head are all counted. Do not be afraid: you are worth more than many sparrows!

Jesus does not force anyone to become his disciple. But if one wants to be, he must show it with life. In fact, Jesus himself appears in the disciple of Jesus. How much damage does Jesus make to the hypocrisy of appearing to be Christians and not to be so. What one is not, even in thoughts, is easily revealed, with falls into sin. The devil himself will try to reveal in the light of day what is done in the darkness.

There is another dimension of the Christian life to be considered well: martyrdom, that of blood. Every Christian must take it into account as a real possibility, even if he does not have to look for it. The Canadian martyrs of which today is remembered are a dramatic and marvelous example. If we offer ourselves to Jesus all the pain and suffering that is given to us becomes an extraordinary sign of his love. But we must enter the order of thought, that martyrdom is always a real possibility for the Christian.

Because Christians are always struck with such violence has only one explanation: because it is Jesus Christ is the truth, the revelation of the Father. Today it takes very little to be persecuted, just do not be aligned with the messages of the world or criticize those who command you that you are immediately struck and marginalized even within the Church. Today, violence is not only practiced against Christians, but also slander and vulgarity of words are thrown like stones to strike and tarnish. Unfortunately today's Christians, including clergy who do not rediscover the sanctity that must characterize them, are not persecuted because they are Christians, but because they are not. We have to reflect a lot if we are truly disciples of Jesus.

XXVI week of ordinary time

Lk 9, 57-62

57 As they walked down the street, a man said to him, "I will follow you wherever you go." 58 And Jesus answered him, "The foxes have their burrows and the birds of the air their nests, but the Son of man has no place to lay his head." 59 To another he said, "Follow me." And he answered, "Lord, let me go first to bury my father." 60 He replied: "Let the dead bury their dead; but you go and announce the kingdom of God. " 61 Another said, "I will follow you, Lord; first, however, let me take leave of those in my house. " 62 But Jesus answered him, "No one who puts his hand to the plow and then turns back is suitable for the kingdom of God."

Follow Jesus

Jesus fascinated the crowds and many wanted to follow him for the most varied reasons. But Jesus does not deceive anyone and shows what conditions can be followed: he has no place to lay his head, he does not have a family that supports him and approves him. Jesus knows well the fragility of those who would like to follow him, but he is not free to do it for the bonds that hold him back to things or people.

To follow Jesus we must be called by Him, personally, through his person, his word, his gesture: to follow Christ by attraction. This is the initial push, but then we must commit ourselves to confirm the choice that Christ made of us. Jesus does not deny any of those he has chosen, nor has he denied Judas, rather it was Judas who denied him. But we must do our part too. All Christians are in a state of discipleship: all have been called, but then each must confirm the choice that Jesus made as an election, doing likewise by choosing Jesus as a teacher, as a guide, as a father, mother and brother, as a confidant. , as a friend, as a spouse of the soul. This choice that Jesus made of us is both exclusive and open to all. But our choice of Jesus must be exclusive: you will have no other God besides me, you will have no other teacher. Even we ourselves can not be masters of ourselves or others. And if we are placed in a context of witness, what must emerge from us is the only person of Jesus.

But as Jesus' disciples are so cumbersome today, so much so as to obscure the presence of His person both in them and in history.

How hard it is today to recognize Jesus in some bishop, cardinal, or in religious or religious. If you do not see Jesus in us people can not believe. If we do not carry with us, we risk to bring his eternal enemy, when man prevails in us and not God. We must show the world with our person that we follow Jesus. Only in this way will we help the world to believe and to follow it.

XXVI week of ordinary time

Mt 18,1-5.10

1 At that moment the disciples came to Jesus saying, "Who then is greater in the kingdom of heaven?" 2 Then he called a child to himself, placed him in the midst of them 3 and said, "Verily I say unto you, unless you turn and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 Therefore whosoever shall make himself as small as this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5 And whoever welcomes one child like this in my name, welcomes me.

10 Look not to despise one of these little ones, for I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven.

Angel of God you are my guardian

Let us not forget that today is the festival of guardian angels. That we easily leave aside, because we can listen to them, if we do not see if we live an angelic or divine life.

It does not mean that one must believe in fairy tales, but in Sacred Scripture, which frequently speaks of the Angels and their interventions. Today there are still and there are many interventions by the angels, but unlike the past, voluntary groups and associations often supplant their presence. For example, many volunteers who intervene to help people after serious calamities are called mud angels, or people who take care of the safety of entire neighborhoods are also called City angels, or many volunteers who assist the poor, homeless are called angels of the night.

But angels are never unemployed. God sends them in spite of the little we pray to them and we give them little consideration and respect, above all, not keeping the purity of our hearts and customs. Unfortunately, we have filled the world with moral filth and made the angels run away from us. Here the world is full of devils, who too are very close to us and suggest us the worst things to do against God and against ourselves.

We ask God for forgiveness for so many offenses that we also give to the angels and pray that he has mercy and do not withdraw them from us. Good day.

XXVI week of ordinary time

Lk 9, 46-50

46 Then there was a discussion between them, which of them was bigger. 47 Then Jesus, knowing the thought of their heart, took a child, and placed him near him 48 and said to them, "Whoever welcomes this child in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. For who is the smallest of all of you, he is great ".

49 John took the floor and said, "Master, we have seen one cast out demons in your name and we have prevented him, because he does not follow you with us." 50 But Jesus answered him, "Do not hinder him, for he who is not against you is for you."

The last will be the first

The temptation of vainglory passes through the Church at all times and in all places. Even the apostles were not exempt from thinking who of them was the greatest, as if they had not before their eyes the person of Jesus. To be truly great. according to God it is necessary to learn from Jesus and from the saints. Today in a particular way we are shown the example of Saint Teresa of the Child Jesus and of the Holy Face, Saint Teresa of Lisieaux.

First of all we need a healthy realism. Do you believe it big? There is always someone who surpasses you. We do not have to make the race to be first or the biggest, we compete with God and we become ridiculous.

Instead, the right path is that of the last place, of being like children, even when we are adults, waiting for everything from their Heavenly Father and competing, if anything, to love him more than the others.

This is in synthesis the road traveled by all saints starting from the Mother of God: "here I am the servant of the Lord".

Why can not we walk this path so easy and widely traveled by the many before us? First of all it is a question of faith: do I believe or not that this is the way indicated by Jesus and traveled by Himself? Then the fact that we have a very cumbersome ego, which tends more and more to grow swollen, if it is not deflated with humility, mortification and penance. Last but not least there is always a tendency to judge others, which impedes ourselves and considers that what we are is a gift from God.

Many are those who want to get on the wagon of the most famous of the most successful. Instead those who are walking with the triumphal procession of the cross are few, but in the end it is precisely these that remain in the chariot of the only true winner of history, Jesus Christ who has the primacy that no one can ever take away from him that of love: he loved us first.

We must take seriously the words of the Lord and the example of the saints. Jesus has said it clearly: the last will be the first.
