Sixth week of Easter

Jn 16: 5-11

5 But now I go to him who sent me, and none of you asks me: "Where are you going?" 6 Indeed, because I have told you this, sadness has filled your heart. 7 But I tell you the truth: it is good for you that I go away, because if I do not leave, the Paraclete will not come to you; if instead I leave, I will send it to you. 8 And when he comes, he will show the guilt of the world concerning sin, justice, and judgment. 9 Concerning sin, because they do not believe in me; 10 concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father and you will no longer see me, 11 concerning judgment, because the prince of this world is already condemned.

The mission of the Holy Spirit

At the departure of Jesus corresponds the mandate and the mission of the Spirit on the part of the Father. The physical presence of Jesus in fact must be overcome by that in the Spirit, who makes the person of Jesus present universally and personally. The Holy Spirit, sent to earth to continue his work, at the same time never leaves the Father, interceding and acting for all believers on earth.

The physical presence of Jesus can be a limit to his universal mission and a risk, because he exposes his image to imitation and falsification, by characters who do not have the imprint of the Spirit on them. Instead the Holy Spirit is the only one who knows how to form in the heart and in the persons of the faithful the true image of Christ, crucified and risen, who lives and works in those who let themselves be led by the Spirit.

Today we do not place obstacles to the Holy Spirit, saddening him with our sins, but we let the Father draw with the Spirit the image of Christ in us. Only in this way every Christian and the Church itself will be credible, if the world can see in us the face of Christ. Good day.
