Gospel to day: march 2019

Wednesday March 2019

First week of Lent

Lc11, 29-32

29 As the crowds thronged, Jesus began to say: "This generation is a wicked generation; she looks for a sign, but no sign will be given to her, if not the sign of Jonah.30 For, as Jonah was a sign to those of Nineveh, so also the Son of man will be for this generation. 31 On the day of judgment, the queen of the South will rise up against the men of this generation and condemn them, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon. And behold, here is one greater than Solomon. 32 On the day of judgment, the inhabitants of Nineveh will rise up against this generation and condemn it, because they were converted to the preaching of Jonah. And behold, here is one greater than Jonah.

The signs of God.

God gave Jonah as a sign for Nineveh. God the Father sent his Son Jesus as a sign for Jerusalem and for its leaders. We know how it ended and what they made of the sign: they wanted to eliminate it and delete it. Jesus Christ in his divine person sums up every sign that God has given to men so that they return to the Father.

But there are also signs that God sends as negative signs, to tell us that things in the Church do not go as God wants. Today, it is a day to be erased from the calendar, we remember one of these signs preceded by another highly dramatic sign.

We see that we deserve these signs, because although we know that here there is much more than Solomon and Jonah, we have preferred man to God. Now we chew the bitter taste, praying that God will intervene as soon as possible and save his Bride: the Holy Mother Church.

After the ashes

Lk 9: 14-15

14 Then John's disciples came to him and said to him, "Why do we and the Pharisees fast many times, while your disciples do not fast?" 15 And Jesus said to them, "Can the wedding guests be in mourning until the groom is with them? But days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast.

Do you fast or not?

But then do we have to fast today or not? We have with us the "Spouse" Jesus Christ ?. Even if we have it with us, it is advisable to fast, because when you have a dish in front of an excellent dish, we easily forget "the divine Spouse" to fill our stomachs. Therefore it is good to fast. But if you do not fast before Lent and after Lent, it will be impossible to fast in Lent. This is the time when we can learn to fast. Good day
