XVI week of ordinary time

Mt 13, 1-9

1 That day Jesus left the house and sat by the sea. 2 So many people gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat down, while the whole crowd stood on the beach.

3 He spoke to them of many things with parables. And he said, "Behold, the sower went out to sow. 4While sowing, some fell along the road; the birds came and ate it. 5Another part fell on the stony ground, where there was not much earth; sprouted immediately, because the ground was not deep, but when the sun came up, it was burned and, having no roots, dried up. 7Another part fell on the brambles, and the brambles grew and choked it. 8Another part fell on the good ground and gave fruit: one hundred, sixty, thirty for one. 9Who has ears, listen. "

O saints or damned

Does the Sower still come out to sow today? Yes! He comes out in person, because sowing the Word is a divine act, which the Son of God does not delegate to anyone. In fact the parabola is in the singular and not in the plural.

Who could bring the Word of God who converts and saves us to the hard heart of us men? Our personal task is to work the hard soil of our heart. Without this work the land remains barren, fruitless, fruitless for eternal life.

Thus did all the saints with themselves. There is no saint who does not shine by the power of penance and suffering and who has not worked hard against himself to win the grace.

These words: penance, sacrifice, asceticism, struggle against sin, are not found on the lips of today's preachers, perhaps because they are not even in their lives. Yet even modern, modern saints have gone through the ordeal, and have worked themselves with penance. Among them emerges as a giant St. Charbel Makhluf (1828-1898), called the Padre Pio of Lebanon. His story is to be discovered, (I refer here to some links and catechesis), he has worked himself above all with the virtue of humility and obedience and no less shone for the other virtues among which chastity. This saint is to be discovered and invoked, and his humility is so great that he waited after death to make himself known. Moreover, since his body gave out a reddish liquid that is still used to ask for the grace of healing, when Saint Charbel was beatified and canonized by Pope Paul he stopped producing oil and dried, so that the cult was prayer was more and more directed to God and his saints.

Today all the members of the Catholic Church: lay faithful and clerics need to rediscover the path of penitence and asceticism to God. Today's Church does not shine with holiness but with sins. We must not wait to work for personal holiness, we must celebrate only that of his distinguished sons, like Saint Charbel or the Mother of God herself. The world wants to see our holiness now, especially that of bishops, priests and of all those who enter through the church door. If we do not become saints the risk of damaging ourselves is very high. Holiness is today the main obligation of the Cristian. Saint Charbel intercede for us.

XV week of ordinary time

Mt 10.34-11.1

34 Do not believe that I have come to bring peace on earth; I have come to bring not peace, but sword. 35 I have come to separate man from his father and daughter from his mother and daughter-in-law from his mother-in-law; 36 and the enemies of man shall be those of his house.

37 He who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; 38 whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. 39 Whoever keeps his life for himself will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.

40 Whoever welcomes you welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. 41 Whoever welcomes a prophet because he is a prophet, will have the reward of the prophet, and he who receives a just man because he is a just man, will have the reward of the just. 42 Whoever has given one of these little ones to drink even a glass of cold water because he is a disciple, verily I say unto you, he will not lose his reward "

1 When Jesus had finished giving these instructions to his twelve disciples, he left there to teach and preach in their cities.

A sword on the earth.

The angels, announcing to the shepherds of Bethlehem the birth of the Son of God, say: "Peace on earth to men of good will", but certainly Jesus did not come to bring peace, because his presence manifested and unleashed the infernal forces that they acted undisturbed on earth.

For this reason Jesus says that he came to bring the sword, to strike the demonic forces: the sword of the Word of God. In fact, with the sword of the Word of God, the lies and the machinations of darkness, which hide themselves, are brought to light also in family relationships, which are the first that are affected by Satan.

Faith is transmitted first of all in the family from father to son, from mother to daughter: the enemies of man will be those of his house. Faith is not founded on compromises, the primacy of God starts from the family. If parents love their children more than God, they do the harm of their children, it is one thing to do the will of God, one thing is to do the will of the children, to do everything the children want. Being worthy of God means being part of his family, of the divine family, now and for eternity.

There are other conditions to follow Jesus to keep in mind and put into practice: take up one's cross and be willing to lose one's life. To take up the cross means to crucify our sin with penance. But everyone must go to the school of the saints to learn penance, given that today the Church has stopped preaching penance, thus weakening the faithful, who have no weapons to resist Satan.

Jesus passes and comes through those who carry him with them for their faith. We therefore do not disdain to welcome those who announce it, even those at home, because Jesus uses everyone to get to talk to us in our hearts, to convert them. Faith is a battle to be sustained every day, the winner will be the one who will remain faithful to the end. Good day.
