XX week of ordinary time

Mt 22: 34-40

 

34 Then the Pharisees, having heard that he had closed his mouth to the Sadducees, gathered together together, 35 and one of them, a doctor of the Law, questioned him to test him: 36 "Master, what is the great commandment in the Law? ». 37 He said to him, "You will love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 The second is likewise like that: You love your neighbor as yourself. 40 These two commandments depend on the whole Law and the Prophets. Let's put it to the test

 

Let us put it to the test and do not do as the Pharisee who puts Jesus to trial and then argues or accuses him. Jesus uses this strategy for the growth of our faith. Even the world uses this strategy to add Christians, then to accuse and kill them. The world also uses the road to the scandal and the sins of the priests, and then to attack the whole church.

 

It is better that we leave ourselves in the hands of God, who does the wound and then the cure.

 

Today Jesus puts us to the test if we know what the greatest commandment is. Perhaps we do not even know the commandments, but the greatest is the one that allows the implementation of others, or as Jesus says from which the law and the prophets depend.

Commandment is love. Perhaps in words we arrive, while in the practice of this commandment we tarry.

 

 Do we know where it is written in the Word of God? One can say no matter where we know it, but we practice it. If we do not know the exact words God teaches us to love, how do you want to put it into practice? Why is it so important to know?

 Because we are not mistaken and why the Word of God contains the Spirit of Christ to take it and put it into practice. St. Jerome said, "Ignoring the Scriptures is to ignore Christ" (from "Prologue to the Prophet Isaiah's Remarks" by St. Jerome, priest, No. 1, CCL 73, 1-3).

 

How to respond today to those who ask or question us about the commandment of love. We need to do as Jesus: to answer precisely and precisely with the Word and with life. But if our interlocutors point to the scandals that this commandment suffers, what should we do? You need to remedy yourself personally. Also, to make people understand that man is inevitably weak, only the grace of God can keep him from scandalizing his neighbor. Philip answered him, "Come and see." 47 Jesus, meanwhile, when Nathanael met him, said of him, "Behold, there is a man of Israel, where there is no falsehood." 48 Nathanael asked him, "How do you know me?" Jesus replied: "Before Philip called you, I saw you when you were under the fig tree." 49 Nathanael said to him, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God, you are the King of Israel!" 50 Jesus answered him, "Because I told you that I had seen you under the fig tree, do you believe? You will see things bigger than these! " 51 Then he said to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see the open sky and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man."

Nathanael's call

 

The Nativity of John, mentioned only by John and identified as Bartholomew, because in the lists of twelve appears after Philip, besides the feast of his birth to heaven and the feast of his calling to follow Jesus.

 

His call was mediated by his friend Philip, who led him by Jesus. Jesus recognized in him a true Israelite, without hypocrisy, sincerely devoted to seeking God in scrutinizing the scriptures. One might think so of Jesus' affirmation: "Before Philip called you, I saw you when you were under the fig tree (Jn 1,48)

But seeing Jesus is not like our seeing, who needs the senses and reason to know what you see and judge. Seeing Jesus goes beyond appearances and comes to the heart. The Lord Jesus searches for his heart to be able to place on his grace and love and many other gifts that move man's will to God.

 

Thus Nathanael received the gift of the call, through the word of Philip and the sight of Jesus, and his answer was not to be expected, beyond the doubts that reason always presents to the soul, proclaimed Jesus Messiah and Lord.

 

In St. Bartholomew we are called upon to recognize our personal calling, almost always arriving by a third party or directly from Christ in the Church. All Christian life from its rise to sunset is a continuous call of Christ to meet him in the faith and to recognize him as Messiah and Lord of our life and the whole universe. Where have we responded to Christ? Let us ascertain, if possible, our steps toward Him. How much we are actually close to or far from the response of St. Bartholomew who then led him to follow him. It would be really sad for each of us not to accept Philip's invitation. Good day.

Mt 20.1-16

 

 

1 The kingdom of heaven is like unto a lord of the house that went out to dawn to labor for his vineyard. 2 And he agreed with them for a day's money, and sent them into his vineyard.3 And it came to pass at nine in the morning, and he saw other people standing in the plain, and said to them, "Go ye into the vine; What is right I will give it to you. " 5 And they went. He went out again midday, and about three o'clock, and did the same. 6 Still at about five o'clock, he saw others standing there and saying to them, "Why are you here all day without doing anything?" 7 They answered him, "Because no one has taken us into the day." And he said unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard.

8 When it was evening, the master of the vineyard said to her, "Call the workers and pay them, starting from the last to the first." 9 The five o'clock in the afternoon came, each one receiving money. 10 When the first arrived, they thought they would receive more. But they also received money each. 11 But when they had withdrawn him, they murmured against Master 12, saying, "The latter have worked only one hour, and have treated them like us; we have borne the weight of the day and the heat." 13But the master answered one of them, he said, "Friend, I do not wrong you. Did not you agree with me for a cash? 14 Take yours and leave. But I also want to give this to you as well: 15 can I not do my things what I want? Or are you envious because I am good? Send to the vineyard of the Lord

 

 The parable of the workers sent to the vineyard is closed between two verses of the same tone: "many of the first are the last and many of the last ones will be first" (Mt 19.30) and "so the last ones will be first and last." 20,16).

 

They are simple words to understand, but they are suitable for various interpretations. Jesus could refer to the poor, the so-called the last of the earth, or the last are those who have recently received revelation, or the last, chronologically, called to faith.

 

This parable speaks of the universal call to the kingdom of heaven, this time understood as a call to work in a vineyard. This call comes when the master of the vine comes out at dawn at nine o'clock in the morning to noon at three o'clock and 5 o'clock in the afternoon and ends with the evening when the master orders his payroll, beginning with the last ones The first ones.

 

Of course that master is not just a landowner, and the hours when the master goes out to call are the hours of the day, those workers are simply workers, the vineyard is a vineyard, the pay is the pay for the work. Everything is related to God and the call to the kingdom, a call that calls for time and effort, and which has a reward for all.

 

This parable is a metaphor of the history of salvation with the constant invitation of God to work for the growth of the kingdom in his vineyard, which is his people. The call takes place at different times of history, but it does not claim any advantage for the first called. In fact, the last ones seem to be the most advantageous in terms of pay, compared with those who have been called first.

 

 Here there is no need to open any trade union or remunerative justice issue, but it affirms the uniqueness of God's gift of eternal life for the first called as well as for the last. If the currency with which the master pays was earthly, they would be the first to complain, but the coin of God is eternal life, of which only He possesses exclusive possession and manages it according to his righteousness.

 

The most important thing in the kingdom of heaven is to be called to participate and to work for its growth. What pays before God is fidelity to the commitment in the vineyard and the result is great for everyone. The real hardship for the kingdom of heaven is the loyalty to the commitment to it, because it can be less if you lose sight of the horizon of the earthly day. In the end the last and the first share the same result, the same joy, with the master of the vineyard, which holds much to the end result. Good day.

Mt 19: 23-30

 

23 Then Jesus said to his disciples, Verily I say unto you, It is hardly a rich man to enter into the kingdom of heaven. 24 I tell you again: It is easier for a camel to walk through the needle's eye, that a rich man enter into the kingdom of God. " 25 And the disciples were astonished at these words, saying, "Then who can be saved?" 26 Jesus looked at them and said, "This is impossible for men, but to God it is all possible."

27 Then Peter answered him, "Behold, we have left all, and have followed you; What then shall we have? " 28 And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, Ye that followed me, when the Son of man shall sit on the throne of his glory, and the regeneration of the world, ye shall also sit upon twelve thrones judging the twelve tribes 'Israel.29 Anyone who has left homes, brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or fields for my name will receive a hundred times as much and inherit eternal life. 30 Many of the first are the last and many of the last will be first.

What awaits the conquest of paradise

After the rich young man left, sad and disheartened, we can see the following of the question that the young man had put to Jesus: "What must I do to have eternal life? Its grace, it must be free from the exclusive possession of land.

Jesus adds in this part of the Gospel also the renunciation to the family (Mt 19, 29) as well as voluntary continence for the kingdom of heaven (Mt 19, 12).

 

We must not lose sight of the second question that the young man put to Jesus: "What else am I missing?" Because what we are missing needs to ask Jesus and it is a gift of His grace. One may lack the freedom from the use and possession of the earth's property, to another the freedom from family ties, to another the voluntary renunciation of sexual powers. He does not just ask Jesus, indeed he is very demanding with whom he intends to follow him and wants to be his collaborator for the advent of the kingdom of heaven. Peter's objection is understandable, because his situation and other disciples was a radical renunciation To all to follow Jesus.

 

Jesus clearly says through the hyperbole of the camel and the needle of a needle, that riches are obstacles to access to the kingdom of heaven. My daughter is very tormented by a demon. " 23 But he did not even say a word to her. Then his disciples came to him and begged him, "Look at him, for he is behind us crying!" 24 And he answered, "I was not sent except for the lost sheep of the house of Israel." 25This came to him and prostrated before him, saying, "Lord, help me!" 26 And he said, It is not good to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs. 27 "It is true, Lord," said the woman, "and yet the little dogs eat the crumbs that fall from the table of their masters." 28 Then Jesus replied, "Woman, great is your faith!

The universal destination of the Faith

 

We look to the faith of this Canaanite woman, which Jesus declares "great." He must be surprised by his faith that Jesus finds himself in a place where he should not be, while he does not find it in the places where he should be. How did faith come to this woman? How did he find those right words to address Jesus? Jesus knew about that woman, in her omniscience, and goes to that territory to reveal her faith for the benefit of her disciples and ours.

 

Who knows how the woman came to faith, for what mysterious ways the Holy Spirit has passed, to say, "Mercy of me, Lord, Son of David. Yet faith has come to prove that as a spiritual good it is not Subject to the laws of time and space. The Holy Spirit can not be locked or relegated in any way.

 

But the faith of this woman emerges in a "great" way after Jesus puts them to the test, in an unusual dialogue on the mouth of Jesus (Mt 15,24-28), but which serves to discover the faith that it possesses.

 

What is evident from this is the universal destination of faith, as had already been announced by prophets in particular Isaiah (Is 56: 1, 6-7).

 

A road was opened that allowed faith in Jesus Christ to reach us personally and with it salvation. How do we evaluate the possession of this good, how do we feel responsible for it, its gift, and its growth? Faith in us grows if donated, if witnessed. After all, the crisis in the West is just a crisis of faith, replaced by particularly political and naturalistic ideologies.

 

Although there have been and there are great witnesses of the faith, the crisis within the Church, especially in her ministers, who followed populist streets: instead of following Jesus Christ have followed the people and have watered down their faith. The faith of Church ministers is the Church's first problem. Playing Christianity or making priests is the drama that the Church lives today. The question is whether this time its need for new martyrs, not just blood, but of faith, willing to give up everything, even their lives, not to change the faith that was received with a worldly or social doctrine that does not save nobody. Man does not separate what God has united

 

The answers given by Jesus are valid for yesterday's matrimonial questions (whether or not it is legitimate to repudiate the wife for any reason) and those of today, where the common sense prevails, the "what is wrong" and the ideology of the " Love, understood as gender, with the result of rendering unsettled relationship between man and woman toward marriage. Instability in relationships between the sexes is endemic to man and woman today, because they have freed the impulses and passions without being able to put any order on any inhibitory brake. In the name of freedom, and doing what you want, you accept all forms of depravity.

 

Not even the test marriage, conviviality, help you deal with the problems and resolve them even when they last over time. In their shadow they can be justified by infidelity and betrayal, and the relationship between a man and woman is often very often based on personal preferences and interests.

 

But why, while being a natural institute, has God added rules that give him stability?

 

Because of evil in man, what is well done is corrupted in his hands, if it does not intervene God's grace sustains a nature, that of man, fragile and inclined evil.

 

Even when God intervenes, man can never be safe from errors and sins. Only a three God-man-woman alliance, constantly renewed and verified, can give stability to marriage.

 

Those who are not interested in marriage and family, but also want to live as married out of any constraint and rule only contributes to the instability of society, increasingly focused on the rights of the individual than on his duties.

 

A society that penalizes families is destined to extinct. Even homosexual civil unions are the sign of the moral and spiritual decay of a society that no longer receives the blessing of God and has the law to give vent to their passions. When God abandons a society to itself it is the end. Everything that contributes to its extinction.

 

God in Jesus Christ never tastes to tell us what his plan is and what he wants from man. The Catholic Church has the primary duty to listen to Jesus Christ and to show man his ways. He must also listen to the man, but not let himself be taken from him. It is not the Church that must walk with man, but man with the Church. How can Christ not walk with the Church, but the Church with Christ.

 

Beyond that, there remains the judgment of God, who will do justice to all that has been done by man and the Church men against his will.

The announcement of the death passion and resurrection of Jesus and the temple tax.

 

Jesus sends very clear messages to his disciples in relation to his destiny. He does it without doubt to prepare them for his death in his resurrection. The disciples are saddened by this. But they can not say anything to the master, they are afraid to ask questions about this subject. For us it should not be so. We have to deal with all of Jesus' life, especially his passion, death and resurrection, because it also affects our destiny. Only for us the resurrection will have two opposite outcomes: eternal death or eternal life. So we must do everything because the resurrection for us has a happy, blessed outcome.

 

About the episode about temple tax collection What can we teach at the spiritual level? That money is always a trap to which we easily bend, like the fish that has the silver coin in his mouth. Jesus says that temple tax is paid, though as God's children we should be free, because it is up to the Father to set aside for his children. If it can be extraordinary to fish for a fish and find a coin, it is not for a Christian, who is likely to have something in his mouth, especially money. In this way it is easy to catch the devil who knows how to choose and fish his fish only with a thread.

Jesus and Peter pay the tax for the temple, and we too do the same. Not forgetting to give God what is God. Good day.

Mt 14: 22-33

 

22 And immediately afterwards he forced his disciples to go up to the boat, and to pass over into the other side, until he had sent the crowd away.23 And the multitude withdrew, and went up to the mount, and stood by, to pray. Come in the evening, he was standing up there alone.

24 The boat was already many miles away from the ground and was shaken by the waves; the wind was contrary. At the end of the night he went toward them, walking on the sea. Seeing him walking on the sea, the disciples were upset and said, "It is a ghost!" And shouted with fear. 27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, "Courage, I am you, do not be afraid!" 28 Then Peter said to him, "Lord, if you are, command me to come to you on the waters." 29 And he said, "Come!" Peter went out of the boat, walked on the water, and went to Jesus. 30 But seeing that the wind was strong, he was afraid and began to sink, and cried out, "Lord, save me!" 31 And straightway Jesus stretched out his hand, and seized it, and said unto him, Little man of faith, why hast thou doubted? As soon as he got up on the boat, the wind stopped. 33 Those who were on the boat spurned before him, saying, "You are truly the Son of God!"

Sailing without Christ, naivety, sin and

Lack of faith.

 

The disciples of Jesus were always with Him, accompanying him during his preaching, also attending his work as a taumaturgus, a healer, and witnessing extraordinary events such as hunting demons, raising the dead, multiplying the loaves. But some facts directly concerned his person, and were revealing of his identity as the Son of God: among them Jesus walking on the waters. Everything happens after the first multiplication of the loaves (Mt 14,13-21). Jesus removes the disciples and dismisses the crowd, who only physically understood the sign of bread and fish. Jesus wants to help his disciples to know him in his deep identity, which his humanity inevitably conceals. Gestures are often more revealing than words. Jesus walks on the waters and does not sink, does not undergo the elements and laws of nature, he or she overlooks it as he pleases. God had intervened with Mose to open the Red Sea and let Israel go dry. Even with Joshua he did the same on the Jordan River. But something else happens here. The disciples did not have time to think of these things, they believe it a ghost. Then Peter goes to the test and tests Jesus: "Lord, if you are, command me to come to you on the waters" (v.28). Peter descends from the boat and starts, but then for fear and the strong wind begins to sink. Jesus only needs to stretch out his hand and Peter saves. Hence the reproach of Jesus to Peter, which explains why Peter began to sink

 

The disciples will still experience winds and storms. Indeed that little boat is the sign and prophecy of the Church and its history, always at the mercy of the stormy history of men. This is a certainty, as it is equally true that Jesus does not abandon Peter's boat to his Church. With Him the wind is silent and the crossing continues safely.

From this fact it is clear that Jesus puts his Church to the test, leaving it to the throne of the world and going towards it, climbing with her on the boat, to make her sail safely in the sea of the world always in storm. Outside of metaphor, the reality of the Church is just that.

It is equally true for the soul of each of us. The temples of temptation and sin are equally strong. Those who are facing them without Jesus are likely to get overwhelmed. Thinking to do without Christ is a pity, a naivety. But more is a lack of faith. Have a nice Sunday.

Mt 16: 24-28

 

Then Jesus told his disciples: "If any one wants to come after me, deny himself, take up his cross and follow me. 25 For whoever wants to save his life will lose it; But whoever loses his life for my cause will find it. 26 For what advantage will a man have if he will gain the whole world, but will he lose his life? Or what can a man give in return for his own life? 27 For the Son of Man is to come in the glory of his Father, with His angels, and then He will do to each according to His doings. 28 Verily I say unto you, There are some among those who are not to die, before seeing the Son of man come with his kingdom. "

Conditions to follow Jesus.

 

Jesus never misses an opportunity to remind us of the conditions to follow him. This is not to put a strap on our throat, or to take away our freedom, but because our successor to Jesus is successful.

 

In fact, it is not said that one after being called by Jesus to follow him, possibly dressed in a ministry, aided by the grace of God, is in step with Jesus and does not lose sight of it, or perhaps turn his back on him and betray him . Was it not possible for Judas and then Peter too? The history of the Church is full of time, of betrayal of Christ: popes, bishops, priests, religious and religious, lay men and women, rich and poor. We too must not be excluded from this large group: we are all condemned to deny Christ. Not for this, however, we must dismantle and be disappointed with ourselves and others. Only you have to be careful not to go without returning roads, like those of vices and heresies, where the pride of the flesh and the pride of reason make you master.

 

Certainly God can take away from all the miserable conditions in which we can fall, but he is also attentive to constantly pointing us the way, the road: "Then Jesus said to his disciples," If anyone wants to come after me, deny himself, His cross and follow me. (Mt 16: 24). The problem is that we easily rebel against the cross, do not build our lives on virtues, we do not pray enough especially in the test, we do not love Christ or say we love him only in words.

 

The problem is very serious because our salvation and that of the whole world are at stake. Many of the problems that exist today in the world and in the Church are due to the little credibility of Christians. Many Christians, instead of being places of grace, are arid terrains where nothing grows. Instead, we have the vocation of the truncated grafts in the vine, that of bringing abundant fruits, as were the fruits of St. Clare of Assisi. No Christian is spared the cross. If we feel that we do not have special crosses or that we have abandoned them and that we have been abandoned by God. We think well of this. Good day.

Oil in small vessels

 

 Today is celebrated Santa Fe Teresa Benedetta of the Cross, Edith Stein, virgin and martyr in the Nazi death camp of Auschwitz, patron of Europe. Among the many saints of the Roman calendar there are also two ancient saints: Fermo and Rustico martyrs, martyred according to the most acclaimed tradition in North Africa, under Emperor Decio (249-251 AD). There is no relic of Santa Teresa Benedetta of the Cross; his studies and his philosophical, theological and spiritual researches have come to him. Fermo and Rustico martyrs have ancient relics placed in the church of San Fermo Maggiore in Verona, where the Veronese from Bishop Annone devoted themselves to the saints.

 

Faith in Jesus Christ walks through the times and is handed over to the Church personally and personally: Determined, rustic, Edtih Stein. It is contained in words, works, and facts and people whose memory is kept alive: first of all in Sacred Scripture and then in the saints, through relics, sacred buildings, writings and testimonies that are the true treasure of the Church. Not to mention the rule of the communion of saints: the communion that exists between those in heaven and those who walk pilgrims on earth, carriers of grace and heavenly aid.

 

This is our treasure, which the devil in all ways tries to steal and that we carry in small vessels, that is, in our soul.

 

How precious is the tradition of the faith that we have both locally and in the whole of the Holy Church, because in my small vase, in truth, there can be all the treasure of the Church. Outside looks small but inside has room for infinity. Today there is room for Holy Benedict of the Cross, for the Fermo and Rustic saints, tomorrow for St. Lawrence and so on.

 

Let's trade ourselves like the wise virgins. You are always worried about wearing a light reserve, because we never have enough. The night has fallen on the world, the darkness is dense, the late groom is coming, the sleep makes the vigil, and the door will be closed forever, the time has come short.

XVII week of ordinary time

Mt 14, 1-12

 

At that time at the tetrarch Herod received news of the fame of Jesus. He told his courtiers: "He is John the Baptist. He has risen from the dead and for this he has the power to do wonders! "

Herod had indeed arrested John and had put him in chains and thrown into prison because of Herodita, his brother Philip's wife. In fact, John said, "It is not lawful for you to keep it with you." Herod, though he wanted to die, was afraid of the crowd because he considered him a prophet.

When Herod's birthday was, Erodita's daughter danced in public and so pleased Herod that he promised her with oath to give her what she had asked. She, instigated by her mother, said, "Give me here on a tray the head of John the Baptist."

The king was saddened, but because of the oath and commune he ordered that he be given him and sent John to the jail. Her head was taken on a tray, she was given to the girl and she brought her to her mother.

His disciples came to take the corpse, bury him, and went to inform Jesus.

It's always a matter of faith

 

What is the good news contained in this Gospel. This good news is not simply in the announcement of the death of John the Baptist, but in the destiny to which John meets and in what is to come to Herod, Herodias, her daughter, and all those who have endorsed Herod's behavior. John the Baptist has lived and died for the truth and for God, all the others for power, success, and money. It will be God therefore to repay Saint John the Baptist and the money the power to repay Herod. As is known since he reigned for the Romans, they did not like his intervention and sent him into exile. Each master repairs his subject with the due. God's pay is much more than any human pay and John Baptist has lost his head but not the prize. Why do we want to easily give up God's prize for the poor pay of the world? . It is always and only a matter of faith.

Mt 13.54-58

 

54 When he came to his homeland, he taught in their synagogue, and the people were astonished, and said, "From where do these wisdom and wonders come upon him? 55 Is not this the carpenter's son? And his mother, is not he called Maria? And his brothers, James, Joseph, Simon and Judah? 56 And her sisters, are not all of us? Where do all these things come from? " 57 And it was for them a cause of scandal. But Jesus said to them, "A prophet is despised except in his own country and in his own house." 58 And there, because of their unbelief, did not do much wonders.

The divinity of Jesus Christ must not be sought out of the Bible

 

The temptation not to go beyond the humanity of Christ and therefore not to be able to see his divinity and how much present today.

 

In this temptation and in their judgment, the inhabitants of Nazareth who knew Jesus since childhood have fallen and have wondered, if not scandalized, about his behavior as a master and a prophet. They thought they knew Jesus well, only because he was of Nazareth and that his family was known.

 

But why does Jesus sometimes return to his city? We do not know the exact reason, perhaps to find her mother, or family affairs, or not to neglect the city she grew up in.

 

But as truth explains Luke's parallel step (cf. Lk 4:21), Jesus came to Nazareth to announce the fulfillment of the Word of God.

 

Why Nazareth? Not for campanilistic reasons or for echoes that his presence would have aroused, but because he assumed the name of the place of origin with his name: Jesus of Nazarth, Jesus the Nazarene, was even more explicit reference to the prophecies that proclaimed him : Zaccaria (3: 8): "Yes, behold, I am coming to my servant, the Sprout" and again: "Thus saith the LORD of hosts: behold, there is a man named Sprout" (3: 8).

Then also Jeremiah: In those days and at that time I will sprout for David a sprout of righteousness; He will exercise judgment and justice on earth "(33, 14) Finally, more explicitly, also the prophet Isaiah: In that day, the Lord's Buddha will grow in honor and glory" (4: 2) and again: "Un A sprout will sprout on the trunk of Iesse, a virgulus will be sprouted from its roots, upon it will stand the Spirit of the Lord "(11: 1).

 

The word Nazareth means "Sprout", and in this way, together with a geographical origin, a prophetic, biblical source comes together. In fact, the biblical origin goes beyond the geographical one and announces its origin in God.

 

The divinity of Jesus must not be sought out of the scriptural context of the Old and New Testament. Jesus, having shown in words, wonders, and signs, his being Son of God, places himself clearly in Sacred Scripture as the only way to get to know and believe in God and in the One who has been sent. Out of Sacred Scripture we can not know and meet the Son of God: Jesus of Nazareth

Mt 13.44-46

 

44 The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in the field; A man finds it and conceals it; Then he goes, full of joy, sells all his belongings and buys that field.

45 The kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant seeking precious pearls; 46 found a pearl of great value, goes, sells all his belongings and buys it.

The difficulty of thinking and desiring the kingdom of heaven.

 

Jesus with the parables of the kingdom not only reveals the "secrets" of the kingdom of heaven, but invites us, almost obliging us, to think of the kingdom of heaven, which we do too little.

 

 To draw on it our attention uses particular details: the hidden treasure and the precious pearl. Only the kingdom of heaven is more than a pearl, even the most precious one. The kingdom of heaven is far more than a hidden treasure, even the richest treasure of the earth. Why do not we persuade and prefer the pearls of the earth or do we try to find treasures many times impossible?

 

It is necessary to learn from one's own experience how to have the right value to things, eg prefer eternal things from those that pass, things from God to those of the world. Prefer the holy things to the profane ones. St. Paul's invitation on Easter Day: Think of things in the sky, not of those in the earth. (Col. 3.2). Why can not we fly and prefer the things of the kingdom of God, the kingdom of heaven?

 

Perhaps because we mix the interests of the earth with those of heaven.

We think little of the kingdom of heaven, we talk little about it and the possibility of losing it definitively. Then we are easily deceived by the devil, who uses every cunning to distract us from God and God's things. Then he also collaborates with our little intelligence of God's things because we do not reflect, meditate, and judge life with the wisdom that comes from the Gospel And the experience of the saints.

 

 Someone says to settle for the earth and the few years that they live. But if we are done for heaven, why should we stop here? Let us evaluate with the help of the Holy Spirit what we must place in our spirit to convince us of the goodness and greatness of God's things, because we are easily entertained by worldly things that deceive us in the value of earthly realities, overturning judgment towards them and considering those Eternal only for the future. Eternity in Jesus Christ has already erupted in history, only that history and men are afraid of losing in front of it, while they have everything to gain. Good day.

Mt 13: 36-43

 

 

36 Then he dismissed the crowd and went into the house; His disciples approached him to say, "Explain to us the parable of weeds in the field." 37 And he answered, "He who sows good seed is the Son of Man. 38 The field is the world, and the good seed are the children of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the Evil 39 and the enemy who sowed it is the devil. Harvesting is the end of the world and reapers are the angels. 40 Therefore, as the weeds are gathered together and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the world. 41 The Son of Man will send his angels, who will gather from his kingdom all the scandals and those who commit iniquity 42 and cast them into the burning furnace, where they will weep and crawl. 43 Then the just shall shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who has ears, listen!

He who has ears is listening

 

The fact that the disciples ask for the explanation of the dishwashing parable in the field does not mean they did not understand the parable, but were incapable of seeing God in it. In fact, Jesus explains who are the divine actors of the parable, starting with those who sow up to the assertions Terrible on the final penalty.

 

The problem of bringing back to God the Word that we say with superficiality that is the Word of God is of great importance for the spiritual life that feeds above all of the Word of God.

 

From the Word of God we receive what is needed for our salvation, we know the will of God, we are educated in the ways of God, we are listening to Jesus Christ himself. There is no other Word besides what God has pronounced on earth for man. This Word, therefore, asks for an attention, a listening and a reception different from any other word. Do we have to wonder why we disregard it and treat it with superficiality?

 

 Jesus terminates this parable with the phrase "who has ears to hear". Jesus does not speak mainly of the ears of the body, but of those of the spirit of man. These words are in fact spirit and life, with them it is the faith which is not only the fruit of God's consent to reason, but of the acceptance of the soul of man, who adheres to God and to what he reveals.

 

The spiritual ear of man is in the soul of man, who has the capacity to hear spiritual things and to understand them as the Word of God.

The spiritual ear must, however, be trained to listen to spiritual things, if fasting from them does not understand them. The spiritual ear forms the spiritual man, that is, the man who is attentive to the inner life and is always ready to listen to God and to do his will.

 

Man's external and material life is called to be one with the spiritual life, as the soul is one with the body. This unity of soul and body, material and spiritual life is essential to the person, because in it God's will can be fulfilled and spiritual gifts that raise soul and body in the holiness of God can be received.

 

Man needs today more than spiritual food, listening to spiritual things, but not according to the spirit of man, but according to the Spirit of God, which educates man to grow in holiness.

 

How fast we are today in fasting spiritual things, how little we are in contact with the Spirit of God. It seems we have no time to do anything in life, we have time for God.

 

Instead, it is necessary to put order in our lives and to give priority to God's things, we are always tempted to put it after ours, we only reserve those small trunks of time that advance us from our countless activities.

 

  Certainly for the parents it is complicated to match everything, so also for a worker, for a student, for an administrator. Many times we decide to do something for Jesus and then become angry with many facts and people. But the secret is to put God first, then he will teach us to make an order in our lives, because we will put him in front of everything and everyone.

 

He will deal with our loved ones, our affairs, our affairs, our concerns, and even our enemies, because we have not been fasting with God and are always in a state of listening to his will of his Word. We must remember that Christian life is always a matter of listening. The demon will always be in action because we forget about God and his Words, even of this we must always keep in mind, the distraction from God and always lurking. Good day.
